Building A

At the heart of Building A is the central block with the diagnostic and treatment areas in the lower levels and the basic research laboratories in the upper levels.

One enters through the double-height Lobby that looks on to a Pergola-covered Garden. Ahead on the ground floor are the Patient Examination Clusters, connected to the Clinical Support and to the Wellness Centre. From the Lobby there is a direct access to an area where patients can leave their children while being cared for, in the garden level below.

The Pergola-covered Garden, which is central to all the facilities, is at a level below the Lobby (at -4,5 m), where the Diagnostic and Treatment Centres are located. The Treatment Centre, and specifically the facilities for cancer patients, opens out onto a sunken plaza at the western end of the site, which provides a quiet and pleasant ambience. Also located in this level are the Vivarium and the Maintenance Area with their own docks for trailers, directly accessible from the Service Road.

On the first floor are located the Research Laboratories, arranged around the Pergola-covered Garden, backed up by Support Laboratories and a ring of offices overlooking the Marina and the Ocean to the west. These spaces culminate in the double-storey Library, placed in a pivotal position at the intersection of two wings, so that it also becomes a meeting place for scientists, clinicians, and patients. On the SW there is Shell Space for expansion of either the Clinic or the Laboratories, depending on future needs. To the NW are the Cafeteria and the Gymnasium overlooking the Ocean to the west.

On the second floor is the upper level of Research and Support Laboratories, with double-height cut-outs interconnecting the first and the second floor, so as to promote the interaction so essential to scientific research. On the NE wing of this second floor are located the Administration and the Conference Rooms, which connect via a glass bridge to the Foundation offices located in Building B.

On the terrace level are Maintenance rooms and other service areas.
