Today was the closing day of the GI-oncology & Endoscopy Workshop (GOEW)
The "GOEW: Update on diagnostic and interventional endoscopy for GI-oncology" was brought to a close on Saturday afternoon by Prof. Jacques Devière, with the faculty members, guest speakers, international experts and the assembled attendees pronouncing the event a great success.
Over the two-day workshop, participants were provided with a host of presentations, question and answer sessions, discussions and live demonstrations of all aspects of digestive endoscopy in the diagnosis and management of cancers of the GI tract, liver and pancreas.
Particularly impressive were the live procedures, transmitted directly from the from the Hybrid Room at the Champalimaud Foundation and the Erasme Hospital in Brussels. During these procedures, speakers and participants were able to speak directly to the doctor’s, who were happy to answer questions and discuss the procedures as they happened.
The President of the Republic of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, even made a surprise appearance on the morning of the first day. Visiting the Champalimaud Foundation as part of a 2-day tour of Portugal, President Bachelet expressed an interest in the workshop and spent several minutes in the Auditorium before continuing her tour of the Champalimaud Foundation.
