Inside CCU - Pathology Lab

Ana Santos kindly gave us a guided tour of this interesting and important platform.

Tissue specimens arrive here from patients, taken at either surgical operations, or from the clinic. Specific pieces of tissue or biopsies (which are associated with the condition under investigation) are brought here.

Once received, the specimens are processed into paraffin wax blocks and thin slices or sections are cut and stained for microscopical examination to determine the underlying disease process.

The work done in the pathology lab is crucial to achieving the most accurate diagnosis for our patients, as well as providing the necessary information to plan for the most appropriate treatment.
