Inside CCU - Surgical Centre
We walked around the fantastic new facility here at the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, which was officially opened recently by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and asked some of the people working there to tell us their favourite aspect of their new surroundings.
Nurse Fernanda Conceição:
It has to be the natural light – it allows us and the patients to feel connected to the outside world. Sometimes in a hospital, you don’t notice days turning into nights, but here you get to see the sun rise and set. It’s just beautiful!
Bruno Barreto – Cleaning Team:
The facility has a great atmosphere, and because it is so new, we have all of the equipment and materials that we need and everything is organised, with plenty of space. I feel really lucky to work in such a place.
Nurse Rute Soares:
The view of the river is my favourite thing about this place. The tranquility, the quiet – if you can take just thirty seconds out of your day, you can get rid of any stress just by looking out at the river.
Fábio Ribeiro – Support Services
I really like the simplicity of the decoration – it’s modern, clean and classic, and really calming for the patients.
Dr. Marta Carriço – Nutritionist
The space is beautiful of course, and there is so much more open space than you generally see in a hospital, but for me the best thing about working in this environment is the sophisticated equipment that we have, which we can use to give the best treatment and care to our patients.
