António Almeida Santos

António Almeida Santos was educated at the University of Coimbra, where he was awarded a degree in Law. As a lawyer in Lourenço Marques (now Maputo), he was renowned for his struggle against the dictatorship. After the revolution, he served as a Minister on several occasions in areas such as Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Mass Media. He has been an MP since he left government and has held the posts of Secretary-General, leader of his Parliamentary Group and President of the Socialist Party. From 1995 to 2001, he was President of Parliament and is now a member of the State Council.
