J. Anthony Movshon
J. Anthony Movshon is the Director of the Center for Neural Science, New York University.
Born in New York, USA, J. Anthony Movshon received his undergraduate and PhD. degrees at the University of Cambridge, studying visual neurophysiology and psychophysics. Following this, he joined the faculty at New York University, where he is currently Silver Professor of Neural Science and Psychology as well as Adjunct Professor of Physiology and Neuroscience at the School of Medicine. His research is focused on the way the brain encodes and decodes visual information to use in the control of behaviour. In particular, Dr. Movshon’s work concerns the function and development of the primate visual system, especially the visual areas of the cerebral cortex.
During a distinguished career, Dr. Movshon has been widely honoured and recognised, including becoming a Member of the National Academy of Sciences in 2008. He joined the Champalimaud Foundation’s Scientific Committee in 2009.
