A Centre for

Neurotherapeutics

The Digital Neurotherapeutics (DNTx) Centre at the Champalimaud Foundation, part of the Centre for Restorative Neurotechnology (CRN), is a unique clinical space where technology and science converge with medicine, psychology and rehabilitation, to reimagine the delivery of clinical care for people living with brain disorders.

At the centre, neurology and psychiatry work side by side to enhance care through targeted non-pharmacological treatments. We treat conditions affecting mood, behaviour, cognition and movement, combining neuromodulation, digital tools and immersive environments with established approaches such as medication, psychotherapy and rehabilitation. Our goal is to support people whose brain health is affected by brain lesions, neurodegenerative conditions or mental disorders, providing early access to clinical innovation.

In parallel with clinical care, we develop and test new treatments  in collaboration with laboratories from the Neuroscience of Disease Research Programme – CRN's research division – and with teams from the Neurotechnology Warehouse – CRN's technological and innovation platform. Together, these sister units create an ideal environment to conceptualize, design and build novel technologies that can move rapidly into the clinic for rigorous testing. Our experience in running clinical trials of innovative therapies provides industry partners with a structured end-to-end pathway to rigorously evaluate emerging therapies and neurotechnologies.

Who we treat

We care for people living with a wide spectrum of brain and mental health conditions - from depression and obsessive-compulsive disorders, to disorders of memory, language, and movement such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke. We also design dedicated programmes incorporating cutting-edge treatments to complement care in challenging clinical areas such as smoking cessation, chronic pain and cancer-related brain health. Across all these conditions, our approach integrates pharmacological innovation, advanced neuromodulation and structured psychotherapies, paired with high-intensity rehabilitation, immersive exergaming, and digital interventions.

What makes us unique

Our work is guided by evidence showing that the most powerful outcomes emerge when medical intervention, including neuromodulation and medication, are combined with behavioural and psychological strategies such as psychotherapy and rehabilitation. These approaches are further enhanced by technological innovation, including immersive behavioural rooms where patients engage in digital tasks and virtual environments, as well as high-intensity rehabilitation platforms and telerehabilitation programmes that extend care into daily life. Every intervention is personalised and delivered by a multidisciplinary team bringing together psychiatry, neurology, psychology, nursing and rehabilitation specialists.

A research-driven environment

The Centre is also a hub for innovation. Treatment programmes are embedded within ongoing clinical research, from trials of precision-targeted neuromodulation to the development of home-based digital therapeutics and novel devices. As a part of the CRN, the Digital Neurotherapeutics Centre offers patients an integrated ecosystem that unites scientific discovery, clinical application, and translational development - ensuring access not only to today’s most advanced therapies, but also to the breakthroughs of tomorrow.
