About
A longstanding debate concerns the relative importance of ideas versus tools in scientific progress. The physicist Freeman Dyson stated that “Surprises in science often arise from new tools rather than from new concepts”. However, he went on to say that bold conceptual thinking could also lead, although enabled by new tools. The bidirectionality of the relationship between new tools and new ideas is very well illustrated by what is currently happening at the intersection of neurotechnology and neuroscience, whereby a clear symbiosis has developed between what we can measure and analyze, and new levels of understanding.
The Neurotechnology Warehouse provides the opportunity to combine concepts from fundamental neuroscience, cognitive science, neurology, and psychiatry, with the increasing and ever accelerating number of offerings from neurotechnology and AI. Bringing together scientists, clinicians, engineers, artists, and entrepreneurs, the Warehouse generates new scientific discoveries, novel tech development, and aids translation and implementation to the clinical setting.
The Warehouse will provide access to expertise in AI and generative AI, motion capture, immersive exergaming experiences, VR and AR. These software services, along with accompanying hardware such as soft robotics, will catalyze the translation of novel technologies from early-stage development to prototypes ready for first-in-human testing, licensing and spin-out into start-ups. Focus will also be placed on providing an interface between neuroscience and AI, with activities in the areas of synthetic neuroscience and neuro-AI, which seek to understand and apply the robustness and flexibility of neural systems to machine-based perception and action.
Mission
-
To provide a research environment that will allow novel forms of basic and applied human research to be conducted. This research will borrow from and extend frameworks offered by the highly successful basic neuroscience program at CF.
-
To develop novel approaches to track and train behavioral change in health and disease. These include combining generative AI with motion capture technologies to create new immersive exergaming environments for the treatment of psychiatric conditions, cognitive decline and movement disorders.
-
To use hardware, such as soft robotics, and AI for advancing the new field of synthetic neuroscience. Real, rather than virtual or simulated, synthetic animals (animats) are used to provide insights into the architectural and computational principles underlying the neural control of behavior. used to construct hierarchical neural systems.

The Warehouse Leadership
The Directors of the Neurotechnology Warehouse work together to drive the understanding and the treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders. By providing strategic leadership, they empower researchers into bridging scientific innovation with transformative medical applications, leading to the development of cutting-edge neurotechnologies.
Coordination Team
Coordination Team
The Coordination team engages with all stakeholders to bring the strategic vision to life.
Working closely with the Directors, the Programme Manager oversees the implementation, development and integration of the multidisciplinary projects that characterise the Neurotechnology Warehouse ecosystem. Ensuring the strategic alignment and operational success, the Programme Manager secures critical resources and the relevant networks for all teams’ productivity.
In addition to its role as a bridge between research and industry, the Neurotechnology Liaison Officer curates the scientific communication, events and outreach activities of the Neurotechnology Warehouse. This role is carried out in close collaboration with the Programme Manager and CF’s Communication, Events & Outreach team.
