A Call for one Research Fellow for a Master student is open at Fundação D. Anna de Sommer Champalimaud e Dr. Carlos Montez Champalimaud (Champalimaud Foundation) in the context of the project entitled “Viscerosensory patwhays in nutrient postingestive signalling”, with reference “PTDC/SAU-NUT/3507/2021” from the call Nº PTDC2021, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), through Portuguese National Funds (PIDDAC).

The selected candidate will

Perform anatomical characterisation of peripheral neurons innervating gastrointestinal tract, using virus and other neuronal tracers;

Through several surgical and neuronal techniques, at the abdominal level and at the central nervous system, the selected candidate will characterize the importance of gastrointestinal innervation in modulating central dopaminergic circuits.

Requirements

- Research Field: Biological sciences Biochemistry/Biology or other similar areas. 

- Education Level: Bachelor Degree or equivalent.

- Must be registered in a master's degree programme. 

- Fluency in scientific English is indispensable, both in written and oral expression.

Specific Requirements

Essential skills

- Should have some practical experience in Neurosciences. License from the Direcção Geral de Alimentação e Veterinária (DGAV) to work with laboratory animals. 

Desirable skills that will also be considered

Preference will be given to candidates with appropriate training in data analysis, Matlab and Python programming and multidimensional data analysis.

Remuneration

1040.98 Euros as determined by FCT, I.P. Scientific Fellowships regulations for Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) and the Fellowship Regulations of the Champalimaud Foundation. Potentially, this value may be increased with other funds, according to experience and performance. The fellowship will be paid monthly by bank transfer. The fellowship holder will have personal accident insurance and, if not covered by any social protection scheme, can ensure the right to social security through adherence to the voluntary social insurance scheme.

Maximum allowable duration

The Fellowship will have a duration of 9 months, never surpassing the termination date of the project, expected at 31/12/2025. The position is expected to start on or after 01/04/2025 , in exclusiveness regime, as regulated by Lei n.º 40/2004, de 18 de Agosto, FCT (Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação Científica) and FCT Research Fellowship Regulations, as well as the Fellowship Regulations of the Champalimaud Foundation.

Eligibility criteria

National, Foreign or Stateless candidate(s) who hold a Bachelor in Biomedical Areas or other related scientific areas and a scientific and professional curriculum that reveals a profile appropriate to the activity to be developed. 

In case of PhD degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, the degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 341/2007, of 12th of October, and all formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the deadline for application submission.

Selection process

Candidates will be screened to determine eligibility based on minimum qualifications listed in call. Candidates meeting minimum requirements will be scored according to the required application materials:  CV 70% weighting, motivation letter 20%, interview 10% (in case of a tie).

If provided, and if shortlisted, candidates’ referees may be contacted and may count towards evaluation.

Notification of results

All candidates will receive a receipt of acknowledgment within 7-10 business days. The highest scoring candidate will be notified by email or telephone. All other candidates will be notified solely by email of the final outcome of the recruitment process.

After being notified, candidates will have 10 working days to present a claim for redress by email (careers@research.fchampalimaud.org). If no claim is received by the Champalimaud Foundation, the Evaluation Committee's decision will become definitive.
