Abstract

His laboratory studies innate immune recognition and immunoreceptor signalling. Over three decades his work has made foundational contributions to the field, including the identification of plasmacytoid dendritic cells as the principal source of type I interferons in antiviral immunity, the discovery of the TREM and LILR receptor families, and the characterisation of innate lymphoid cells in mucosal immunity. His current research spans neuroimmunology and neurodegeneration, mucosal immunology and cancer immunology, with recent work defining the role of TREM2 in neurodegeneration and cancer, and the development and function of RORγt⁺ dendritic cells in mucosal tolerance.
