Jacques Delors played an unparalleled role in building what the European Union is today. His visionary ideas not only inspired the Union, but he also knew how to guide national leaders towards embracing them.
For all of us in Europe, he stands as a figure of profound admiration and respect.
Our gratitude towards him is immense, and here at the Champalimaud Foundation, we especially acknowledge his significant contributions to our identity. Our work involves conducting science that impacts people's lives directly, and his influence in this area has been crucial. Furthermore, we commemorate his involvement with our António Champalimaud Vision Award.
We are deeply thankful to Jacques Delors for agreeing to serve as a member on the Vision Award's jury. His name, character, actions, and resolve have been vital in both the creation and the success of an award that significantly affects numerous institutions worldwide, combating blindness and illuminating the lives of millions.
