RAISE - Researchers in Action for Inclusion in Science and Education is a new consortium, composed by the NGO Native Scientist and two biomedical institutions, the Champalimaud Foundation and the Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes (iMM), created with final aim of reaching members of society that continue to be left out or feel detached from science.
Funded by the MCSA & Citizens action - RAISE is built around a concept of co-creation that will blend Researchers at Schools (RAS) activities with European Researchers’ Nights (ERN) public events over the next two years.
RAISE will produce two editions of the European Researchers’ Night (Sep 30th 2022 and Sep 29th 2023), that will be taking place at the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown, in Lisbon, and implement two RAS programmes – Cientista Regressa à Escola (CRE) and Ciência di Noz Manera (CNM) – from sustained collaborations and partnerships between researchers, school students, teachers, artists, and members of the public.

Carried out in Portugal, RAISE will connect researchers with Portuguese citizens and/or residents, particularly children and their families coming from underserved and/or underprivileged backgrounds, making science feel more useful and relevant to all and, ultimately, contributing to a more inclusive and diverse landscape in science and education.
To actively and effectively promote diversity and inclusiveness in science, the main target audience of RAISE is children and adults from underserved and/or underprivileged communities, and the methodologies used to implement the ERN events and the RAS programmes are culturally responsive and evidence-based.
