Out of the 278 research projects that applied to the 2012 BIAL Foundation call only 27% of the projects were granted and CNP received 6 of these grants.

Evidence from previous studies has shown that the dorsal medial striatum is necessary for goal-directed actions while the dorsal lateral striatum is necessary for habitual actions. What was not known, and this new study published by Rui Costa in Nature Communications reveals, is that the orbital frontal cortex (OFC), is critical for shifting between these two types of actions.

The Champalimaud Foundation is one of the highlights of the summer issue of EMBO encounters, a magazine from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory.
“Life sciences in Portugal: progress despite recession” is the title of a text, published in issue 24 of EMBO encounter, dedicated to the Portuguese research private sector, where it is recognized “the potential (of the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown) to become a world-class research institute”.
